And it was equally refreshing in 2015 to experiment with 3D that was more of a benefit than a mere expedient to raise extra money (while remaining a step below Avatar And Gravity).
The emphasis placed on practical special effects and old school stunts compared to computer-generated images it adds great grit to the frenzied chases and fights that many blockbusters (such as the aforementioned Fast and Furious) they dream. The daytime scenes are dazzling and colorful, with many reds and oranges, while the nights are immersed in shades of blue that make everything close to black and white (actually thought of as a first solution). Certainly, in the last 15 years, very few Hollywood films have been so adrenaline-pumping and visually splendid to hit theaters. It is legitimate to ask who or what the real star of the film is: whether Hardy’s Mad Max or the crazy and magnificent sequences orchestrated by the director. The feat could cause nightmares for most men, but Rockatansky isn’t called “Mad Max” by accident. Immortan Joe, however, is predictably unwilling to let the potential mothers of his children go and so organizes a massive manhunt to kill Max and Furiosa and bring them back.
The plot is simple: Max Rockatansky ( Tom Hardy), a lonely man haunted by the tragic death of his wife and daughter (events recounted in the first 1979 film), joins forces with the Furious Empress ( Charlize Theron) to challenge the warlord Immortan Joe ( Hugh Keays-Byrne), taking away his five wives: Splendid ( Rosie Huntington-Whiteley), Toast ( Zoe Kravitz), Capable ( Riley Keough), The Dag ( Abbey Lee), It’s fragile ( Courtney Eaton).įlanked by the unpredictable Nux ( Nicholas Hoult), seek to free women from captivity and lead them to a legendary still green land to the east. And, when freedom comes only from long-distance transportation, gasoline rises to second place. When the whole world is now a huge desert, water becomes a precious commodity. The film takes place in the same explosive future, in style 1975: White eyes on planet Earthwhere they took place Interceptor, The road warrior And Beyond the sphere of thunder. Too often when special effects dominate the screen, this doesn’t happen. And as always happens in action, things work best because we care about what happens to the protagonist. George Miller spends enough time on their backgrounds and interactions with each other to make three-dimensional what easily could have been (as in the Michael Bay films) trading cards cardboard. However, despite all the action, excitement and chaos around, the characters are well defined. And the post-apocalyptic setting is the test tube where drops of adrenaline and testosterone combine for an explosive cocktail. Constructed as a very long sequence of nearly two hours of chase (with only about a 15-minute braking towards the middle), Fury Road combines the pyrotechnic aspects of Bayhemwith the extreme stunts of the last few chapters of Fast & Furious. When we consider typical summer blockbusters, this is – basically – what we aspire to. for perfect the “spectacular” look which, ultimately, is by far Fury Road’s biggest selling point. It could be argued convincingly that the film may even have been ‘helped’ by the long delay – which not only allowed a younger (and less headache) actor to take the lead, but also gave George Miller more time. During this very long pause, the filmmaker Australian has in fact tried numerous times to get the project started, but the problems related to the rise (and then the fall) of Mel Gibson as the biggest Hollywood star and the difficulties with finding a suitable location have held back the film about shelves after a couple of false starts. It must be said that the three-decade gap between Mad Max beyond the thunder ball and Fury Road was more a product of circumstances than a lack of effort on George Miller’s part. And speaking of taking things to the next level… at the time cinemas showing Fury Road would have done well to have seat belts installed on their seats. George Miller relied on a new cast and a sizable budget ( 150 million dollars) to shoot the Mad Max movie he had always wanted to do, but had never been able to bring to life.
Partly rebootpartly sequeland in part something completely different, the film takes us on a frenzied and dusty journey that is both similar and distant from the previous chapters. Thirty years after the last appearance on the big screen, the protagonist of the saga was in fact roaring with revenge. There is no clearer or more succinct way to put it. In spite of the skepticism of many, Mad Max: Fury Road it turned out to be a triumph upon its release in theaters in 2015.
